What are Handwritten Tweets?

Handwritten tweets are very much what they sound like: what you were going to type into your status update. But, instead, the words are written down on a piece of paper or some other material. The next step is sharing your creation with your followers. Once you have the tweet written down, take a picture of your message, post it to your preferred picture sharing service (like Twitpic) and send a status update with the link to the picture.

Why or when should I write a tweet?

Have you ever wanted to have more room to express what you're thinking and Twitter's 140 characters are too limiting? Have you ever wanted to jazz up what you're wanting to say and exercise creative freedom? This is your chance. Almost everyone is carrying a camera with them at all times, whether it be in the form of a smartphone or even the more basic phones. This allows for handwritten tweets to be possible anywhere you have something to write on. The purpose of handwritten tweets is not to take over as the dominant method for tweeting, but as a way to put in some extra care and effort and creativity when you feel it, and sending someone else one certainly has potential to brighten their day. With the extra characters remaining, after the short url has been put in, you can add more tags or @reply recipiants and spread the idea to more people directly, as well as to anyone who follows you.

How do I participate?

The initial way to participate is to follow the above steps, and then tag the tweet with #handwrittentweets or #handwrittentweet. This is not the only way though, and this site is not going to try and enforce any limits. Use your imagination and see what ideas you come up with. An example idea is writing down some kind words about your favorite restaurant or coffee shop during your next visit, posting the picture to your stream, and leaving the physical copy behind for the employees to find. Be inventive, be creative, make someone's day, and have fun.
